About black pepper
Black pepper is the dried, unripe fruit of Piper nigrum, a climbing vine that grows on support trees across Kerala's hill districts. The berries are harvested green, then sun-dried until the skin darkens and wrinkles.
Kerala pepper has been traded from the Malabar Coast for well over two thousand years. Names such as Malabar and Tellicherry are still used in the trade today, usually to describe grades by berry size and density rather than a single farm or village.
For buyers, the useful questions are practical ones: berry size, bulk density (grams per litre), moisture, light berries, and admixture. Tell us what your market expects and we will respond with what can be supplied.
